Hun Manet and Lee Hsien Loong Discuss Expanding Cambodia-Singapore Cooperation

Phnom Penh, June 20, 2024 – Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet recently met with Singapore’s Senior Minister and former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The leaders discussed the potential for broadening cooperation between Cambodia and Singapore for mutual benefit.

The meeting occurred on the afternoon of June 19, 2024, during Prime Minister Hun Manet’s official visit to Singapore from June 18-19, 2024. This marked Hun Manet’s first official visit to the country.

Lee Hsien Loong welcomed the Cambodian delegation and expressed his satisfaction with their ongoing discussions, recalling their previous meeting during the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Australia in March 2024.

The discussions reviewed the fruitful outcomes of Hun Manet’s meetings with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. Lee Hsien Loong also acknowledged the longstanding diplomatic relationship between the two nations, which dates back to 1965 when Cambodia recognized Singapore's independence.

Prime Minister Hun Manet thanked Singapore for its hospitality and outlined several key areas for enhanced cooperation, including vocational training, education, energy security, environmental protection, and contributions to regional peace and prosperity.

Additionally, Lee Hsien Loong conveyed birthday greetings to Cambodia’s Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk on her 89th birthday.

The visit concluded with Lee Hsien Loong expressing his anticipation for a return visit by Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate, to Singapore in the near future.
